This internship program offers exposure into the workings of an artisan letterpress studio and small business. Established in 1993, Bumblebee Press is a full service letterpress shop in Atlanta Georgia specializing in wedding invitations, social stationery and custom letterpress printing.
Spring Session: Jan 5 – April 30
Summer Session: May 1 – August 30
Fall Session: September 1 – December 24
Required committment:
A minimum of 12 hours per week (full time optional) with a set schedule.
Eligibility:
College students (3rd and 4th year), graduate students and beginning professionals. Applicants are accepted from a wide range of backgrounds and academic disciplines.
Interns will contribute to timely projects and assist in the day to day operations and maintenance of our letterpress studio.
General projects include:
organizing samples of printed work
checking printed pieces for quality and completeness
packing up and shipping orders and samples
some administrative work
filing plates
assisting printers, staff and clients
preparing materials for printing
help to maintain workspaces and display areas
Specific projects are assigned to interns with appropriate skills and interests.
Areas of ongoing projects:
digital media
web and social media
graphic design
marketing
photography
packaging design
events and workshops
display
Interns will be given the opportunity to contribute their talents and build experience in a small company and a busy, supportive environment. Interns may work alongside printers to assist with projects but will not letterpress print client orders. Our Vandercook SP20 may be available for personal projects during off hours with supervision for interns that have prior letterpress printing experience. This is an unpaid internship. Interns are responsible for their own housing, transportation, food and materials.
